Bangladesh’s foreign exchange market remained relatively stable on Wednesday, while global gold prices experienced fresh volatility amid renewed geopolitical tensions, inflation concerns, and expectations surrounding U.S. monetary policy.

According to the latest exchange rate published by Bangladesh Bank, the interbank exchange rate stood at BDT 123 per U.S. dollar on July 15, 2026. The central bank also updated the exchange rates for other major currencies, including the euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, and Australian dollar.

Market analysts say Bangladesh’s foreign exchange market has become more stable in recent months due to improved foreign currency management and policy measures adopted by the central bank. The relative stability of the U.S. dollar has provided some relief for importers and businesses engaged in international trade.

Meanwhile, gold prices in the international market declined slightly as investors closely monitored developments in the Middle East, rising oil prices, and expectations regarding future interest rate decisions by the U.S. Federal Reserve. Spot gold traded at around US$4,030 per ounce, reflecting cautious market sentiment.

Domestic gold prices in Bangladesh continue to follow international trends. In recent weeks, the price of 22-carat gold has remained above BDT 200,000 per bhori, making gold jewelry significantly more expensive for consumers.

Economists note that both the U.S. dollar exchange rate and gold prices are key indicators of the country’s economic health. A stronger dollar generally increases import costs, while higher gold prices affect the jewelry market and encourage investors to seek gold as a safe-haven asset during periods of global uncertainty.

Experts believe that the direction of the dollar and gold markets in the coming weeks will largely depend on decisions by the U.S. Federal Reserve, geopolitical developments, and the global inflation outlook. Investors are therefore advised to monitor market conditions carefully before making major financial decisions.
